I Knew it Was You!
This week at VBS, I got to play the character of the marooned Jim Noland. My costume was pretty simple - some raggedly shorts, a dirty and torn t-shirt, and one sandal. Not exactly the master of disguise!
After the opening skit, I would change back into my normal clothes for the day and hang around in the foyer to start taking some notes for the following night's skit. As the kids move from station to station, they often come by the foyer. While waiting in line, one of our pre-schoolers looked at me and said, "I knew it was you up on the stage!"
She got me. She saw right through the clothes change and fake name. She was quite impressed with her own detective work, and for a pre-schooler, I'll give her props.
Especially since she did a better job of recognizing me playing a character than we often do recognizing Jesus as the main agent in our daily lives. We'll chalk up His actions to any other actor other than Him - chance, coincidence, blind cause-and-effect, or even human agency. He does something important in our lives, and we don't recognize Him enough to say, "I knew it was you!"
Look for the work of God, and you will see it more often. Even if it's not a special act on His part, but coincidence, cause-and-effect, or human agency, He's still behind it all, holding the universe together.
