Manic Peace

Posted by Colby Kinser on

By the time this article is fully published, I expect we'll have a declaration on the presidential election - but as of this writing on Wednesday afternoon, it's still a toss up.

Also in current news is the recent spike in COVID numbers for our county. We've even had one of our own recently test positive (and all the right precautions have been taken), but now almost fully recovered.

These factors also make the markets more volatile. So, there's that problem, too.

Yikes - there's a lot of anxiety-causing factors. And we're fatigued from the pandemic and campaign season. It's a perfect storm to steal away your peace, or worse, for you lash out and mistreat others out of frustration.

We can discuss solutions to all these problems and scratch our heads trying to figure them out. But my friends, we cannot wait for such things to happen before we find peace.

If we don't find peace, we will act out of our fatigue and anxiety - and just add to the anxiety and frustration of others.

While Jesus was on the Cross, He called out to His Father and said, "Forgive them, for they know not what they are doing." They had no idea they were crucifying the Son of God.

The world, being the world, doesn't know what it's doing. There are plenty of smart people doing plenty of intelligent things, but by definition, the world doesn't understand the Kingdom implications of their actions and worldviews. As smart as the world is, they know not what they are doing when seen through the lens of Christ.

Jesus found peace in the midst of chaos because He knew what they didn't know. He knew His Father's plan. He knew He would come back one day to establish His Kingdom. He knew the way of grace. He knew that loving God and loving others were the two greatest commands. He knew that He's the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He knew that the gates of Hell cannot prevail against His Church.

This situation was a complete mess. Jesus' heart was in perfect order.

Your peace will not come from a vaccination or from the results of an election. Your peace will not come from stable markets. Your heart can be in perfect order in the midst of any mess when you trust in the One who knew exactly what He was doing.
